Google’s artificial intelligence model, Gemini, is now available directly on Wear OS smartwatches. Following last week’s announcement, the Gemini app became available on both the Samsung Galaxy Watch series and Google Pixel watches with an update released in the Play Store.
Gemini is now available for Wear OS smartwatches
Wear OS users who want to use Gemini can download and install the app directly from the Play Store on their watch and from the “Manage Apps” section. Once the installation is complete, users will receive a notification saying “Gemini is now on your watch.”
After this step, Google Assistant is disabled, and shortcuts like the “Hey Google” command or long-pressing the side button will now activate Gemini. Gemini can also be accessed via complications or dedicated tiles on the watch face.
When the app is opened, users are greeted by a glowing blue-purple “Ask Gemini” screen. This screen has not yet switched to the new four-color theme. When attempting to connect to an app or extension, a brief “Connecting…” notification will appear.
Replies can include both text and visual content. Below the replies, you’ll find a microphone icon and like and dislike icons. Like the phone version, the warning “Gemini can make mistakes, so check again” is also displayed.
Gemini, which works via the watch, allows you to perform tasks like sending messages, getting location information, creating playlists, and setting reminders directly from your wrist. For example, you can get the location of a restaurant mentioned in an email or ask someone to create a playlist for your workout. All of these actions are performed using the app’s AI-based quick response and action capabilities.
With the integration of Gemini into Wear OS, Google Assistant is completely deactivated. Users now use Gemini directly as their default digital assistant. With its visual interface, micro-interaction elements, and in-app prompts, Gemini has begun to reshape the digital assistant habits of smartwatch users.
